As I stare out the window at the beautiful July sunshine, I make a dozen wishes. The main one being I wish I could spend the entire day basking in the sun, soaking up some Vitamin D and doing absolutely nothing. However, that's not the game plan for today. Or any other day in the next few weeks.
Why not? Because right now, I'm at the "day job", the one that I spend around ten hours a day (not counting my hour-long commute each way) to pay my bills. It's a great job, don't get me wrong, and during my breaks, I get a few minutes to write on my next story or my next blog post. But, it's still not playing out in the sunshine.
Then, there's the daily exercise. Don't like it. Must do it. 'Nuff said.
Of course, I spend time each day with my family. This is the most important part of my day. Even if it's sitting in the same room while we do our own thing. Now that my daughter is away at college, I truly enjoy the moments where we are simply all in the same room.
That's already a lot to do, and somehow, I have to fit in writing and promoting my stories, connecting with readers and strategically planning what's next for my writing career. Whew! I'm already tired just thinking about it all.
I'm not complaining. I love my life, and even when it gets a little crazy --like right now -- I am grateful that I get to do what I do. I'm just a little tired.....
So, what do I do? Plan a vacation? Take a day off?
Nope.
Instead, I decide to change my website. Not just the content on the pages -- the whole flipping thing! Look for an announcement in the next month or so about the new and improved J. Leigh James website.
Maybe I can design my site while I bask in the sun. Vitamin D, here I come!
